I didn't plan on being a stylist, but to support myself in college I answered phones and swept floors at a Paul Mitchell focus salon. I accepted when Joanna Wentworth, owner and Paul Mitchell Master Associate asked if I'd like to apprentice under her. I received my license in 2000 after the two year apprenticeship, while also training to become a National Educator for Paul Mitchell Systems. I worked for the Global Artistic Director for JPMS in CA for three years as an assistant, then stylist before moving back to NYC, where I have worked in two JPMS Focus Salons as a master stylist and education director. As a National Educator for JPMS, I teach cutting and coloring in salons around NYC as well as working hair shows.
Taking a huge leap of faith, I left the salon life after 18 years and created Jules on Foot on January 1st, 2017. It's been my most challenging career move to date and worth every moment. Along with working with my NYC clientele, I also advise other hairstylists on how to make the switch from working in the salon to working for themselves. My motto is borrowed, but no less valid, "Success unshared is failure." |
